Snip · Ringtone & Audio Trimmer

Privacy policy

Last updated 16 September 2026

Snip works entirely on your phone. It has no internet permission, no account, no analytics and no advertising. The developer never receives your audio, your recordings or your contacts — the app has no way to send them.

01What Snip collects

Nothing. Snip doesn’t collect, upload, sell or share personal data. It doesn’t create an account, an advertising ID or any other identifier for you, and it contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code.

Snip does not request Android’s internet permission, so it cannot open a network connection.

02What stays on your phone

Uninstalling Snip deletes the database and settings. The audio files in Music/Snip stay until you delete them, because they’re yours. Files in shared folders like Music can be read by other apps you’ve given audio access to.

03Permissions, and why

Snip asks for each permission at the moment you use the feature that needs it, not when you first open the app.

WhatAndroid permissionWhy
Music and audioREAD_MEDIA_AUDIO on Android 13 and later; READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and earlierTo list the audio on your phone and read the track you choose to trim. Snip only reads; it never changes or deletes your original files.
Save clipsWRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 9 and earlier onlyTo save your clips to Music/Snip. Newer Android versions don’t need this.
Modify system settingsWRITE_SETTINGS — special access you turn on yourself in Android SettingsOnly to set a clip as your ringtone, alarm or notification sound, when you ask for that.
ContactsREAD_CONTACTS, WRITE_CONTACTSOnly when you choose “One contact only”: to show your contacts and attach the clip as the ringtone of the person you pick.
MicrophoneRECORD_AUDIOOnly while you use the recorder.
NotificationsPOST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13 and laterTo show the notification Android requires while a recording or an export is running.
Keep working in the backgroundFOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MICROPHONE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROCESSING, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNCSo a recording or an export isn’t cut off when you switch apps. Android shows a notification while this is happening.
VibrationVIBRATEThe small tick when a trim handle snaps into place. You can turn it off in Snip’s settings.

Android also adds an internal permission, com.wexpa.snip.ringtone.maker.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION, which only lets Snip’s own components talk to each other. It gives no access to your data.

04Google Play

If you install Snip from Google Play, Google handles the download under its own privacy policy. If you’ve allowed your phone to share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google Play may pass the developer anonymous crash and performance reports (Android vitals). Those reports come from Android, not from Snip, and don’t include your audio, recordings or contacts.

05Children

Snip is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, children included.

06Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. A change that affects your data will also be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
